Nautilus. Can I do this? Booster mode AND harness at the same time?

My mom drives four kids, all FF. One GN, one TF. Oldest kid is too big for harness in the GN. Can I do this:

Install GN with LATCH. Thread harness for kiddo in harness mode. Then, when big kid needs to use the seat as a booster, just push the harness out of the way and buckle kid into seat with seatbelt as a booster?

Or, since he's outgrown the harness mode, will he be outgrown of the booster mode? I've fallen so out of the "know" with seats and I've never had to deal with boosters before.

My official CPST answer is no you can't. You have to remove the harness to use the seat in booster mode.

My common sense answer would be that it wouldn't bother me as long as the harness didn't interfere with how the child seats in the seat or the seat belt in any way.

I'm pretty sure that's not allowed...but in emergencies or whatever...

The Nautilus headrest extends past where it'd be for the top harness slot, so it isn't outgrown in booster mode when the harness is outgrown.

That was my answer/thought as well. ;)

Good to see that I'm not having people jump at me, screaming that it'll fail and it's a horrendous idea! :)

As long as child in harnessed mode isn't over the latch limit? I wouldn't worry about it.
Tuck the buckles out of the way under the fabric maybe, to avoid them getting caught up or swinging around.

Megan rode in an RXT like this once *whistle*

But why would it matter if the kid is over the LATCH limit? Aren't you allowed to LATCH the GN in booster mode? Plus, the seatbelt is what is holding him in; LATCH would be irrelevant if it failed, right? He's 63lbs.

The child using the seat in harnessed mode, not the boostered one.
It was just a reminder to check latch limits for the latch install. And them I read your other thread ;)

I would pull all the slack out of the harness to help with the swinging as well. I'm also glad you are getting this answer as I had thought about it before.

I may or may not have done this before.

I would just make sure you tuck the harness away so that it doesn't interfere with the booster rider's fit in the booster.

It isn't like you'll be using the seat minus a vital step like the screw for the top position of the frontier.
