Should you lock your alr seatbelt after engaging the lockoff on the seat? Does it matter which brand seat it is? Are there any seats with lockoffs that forbid locking the seatbelt after engaging the lockoff?

I lock the belt so that my kid doesn't pull it out and play with it, possibly getting himself into an unsafe situation. This was allowed with his seat (classic Blvd) and not really mentioned in the car's manual (97 ford crown vic).

I know Britax allows you to lock the seat belt so it doesn't become a strangulation risk.
I haven't personally asked Combi or First Years.

Allowed but not required by the Keyfit, Truefit, and Coccoro. I think Britax is the same but not sure. Not allowed by Graco (I am almost certain-in their US seats. Allowed in European seats using similar lockoff.) Not sure on the Shuttle.

What do you do if the car's manual says you have to lock the belt to install a car seat?

For the Foonf, in the manual it looks like it is recommended for just lap belt only installations. I emailed Clek and they recommended it for all seat belt installations.

Yep, they don't consider every scenario when writing the manual-like the Sienna LATCH recline thing.
