I have read some stories of children sustains servers or fatal injuries in an accident while not properly restrained. And stories if horrible accidents where properly restrained children came out unscathed. I remember the first story having an incredibly profound impact on me and I have someone I would like to share some of this with.

If you have a person, who you don't really know, a cousin of a good friend, but you just found out their 3 and 4 year olds are in boosters using only a seatbelt, what would you do? Apparently it has been brought to her attention before. But she just got a ticket last night for not having a seatbelt on her 4 year old.

Also, at those ages, how should they be restrained? I don't know for sure what's best at 3 and 4. I do not know their sizes or what car their mother drives. I know her car is a sedan and the kids seem fairly average size. Sorry that's the best I have.

I only have a minute, but these are stories I like to use for contrast, since they happened just two days apart - http://m.ksl.com/index/story/sid/14845286?mobile_direct=y & http://carseatblog.com/9574/they-survived/

The three year old needs a seat with an internal harness. The four year old ideally would be harnessed, but could potentially get away with a high-backed booster. A few good budget seats would be the Harmony Defender 360, Evenflo Sureride, or Eveflo Maestro. The Sureride comes in a two pack at a discount.

Someone else can hopefully give you more info. I would suggest asking this Mom to meet with a local technician so she can hear how to properly restrain her kids - buying them seats won't help if she can't/ won't use them properly.

This isn't the right age group for the family that you are hoping to pass links on to, but it is local to me and it definitely shows how much properly restraining your child can make a difference (and made an impact on me). Both parents died on impact but the baby in the rear facing infant seat had a few minor injuries but survived.

You can probably google some stories as well to show her.
Here is one that I came across about a 3 year old in a booster seat who died: http://www.jrn.com/ktnv/news/187038601.html

Ideally, both of her kids should be in harnessed seats.
