ISO: iPod Touch (After Christmas)

I'd like to get DD an iPod Touch for her b-day in February. It won't be in the budget until after Christmas, but thought I'd put the feelers out in case someone will be upgrading for Christmas and looking to get rid of theirs after.

Hoping to pay around $100, but up to $150 depending on model. She is turning 5 so pristine condition is not necessary ;)

I wanted to add that you may look around for an unused iPhone too. It's up to you. They will be slightly heavier but without cell service, it will be just like an iPod. I've also heard that even if its not serviced by a carrier, 911 still works. I would look for at least an iPhone 4.

Apple is selling refurbished 4th generation Touches for $120. You'll get the one year warranty with it along with the headphones and USB cord.

I think both my kids will be selling their touches after Christmas. Dd1's is a 32, Ds's is an 8. They decided they want ipad minis and if they sell their touch they have enough money saved (once they get their Christmas cash)

I should add they are both 4th gen. I am not sure what I will be listing them for, it would be for around what I can get on craigslist (cause well, less than that and I should just sell them on craigslist)

If you buy a used one, be sure you pay attention to what generation you're getting. 1 and 2 are largely obsolete now. Like, lots of apps won't run current versions. Not sure about 3rd gen.

Thanks, that's only 8GB which I'm afraid might not be enough for her. After researching a little more I'd definitely like at least 16GB, which $179 is a little more than I was hoping to spend...

LMK what you decide to sell the 32GB for. I'm thinking the 16 will end up being what's in my budget though.

Thank you! I'm not really in the know on technology. I just got an iPhone, an upgrade from my plain ol' flip phone, and that's only because MIL gave them to me & DH for Christmas.

Yeah, I don't really know. Probably in the $140-$150 range. The back has some small scratches and it has a tiny chip on the very top edge of the screen, snce she didn't keep the cover on the first few months. The actual screen itself isn't scratched at all though. It is 2 years old and I bought a 3 year squaretrade warranty on it. I don't think the warranty itself transfers but I should look into that as well.

Definitely be open to the iPhone, too. Sophie had an iPod touch for 2 hours before she shattered the screen. We talked to apple and since it was refurbished they said it was likely compromised to begin with, but let us return it.

We upgraded my iPhone4 to the 4s and gave her my 4, and its been much more durable with an otterbox on it. It's just a bit more sturdy. And, you are right about the 8gb vs the 16gb. It took awhile, but she maxed out the 8gb and had to delete a bunch of stuff.

She loves making videos so once I uploaded those the computer it was fine, but I wish she had a bit more space.
