IMG codes and Flickr

It has somehow taken me this long to have discovered how to post image codes to have a photo display in a post without it being an attachment.

However I've got pics on Flickr and can't seem to get the link to display. Is this a known incompatibility, or can someone tell me how to do it correctly?

If the file name ends in jpg or png or a common image format, it should work by using the image button in the editor and pasting the URL into it. If not, please post the link and see if one of us can get it to work somehow.

It has to do with Flickr. You can't just link to the image, because they want it to say that it's hosted on Flickr.com.

Here's info from their FAQ:
Where is the HTML code and photo file link?

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in the Share menu on the photo, to the left of the More menu. We now also include BBCode! (standard message board code)

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

Example of what happens when you enter the BB code:

A rainbow as we left downtown by andreandanne, on Flickr

If you put the link that Flickr gives you in brackets, you get a blank, no image.

Example (no image will appear):
[IMG]http://www.flickr.com/photos/familyof3incali/4527011223/

Now, you CAN shorten the BB code so that it only includes the image and not the title, your username, etc. but that would violate their terms of service.

If you click the BBcode, it will work (under share photo)

The HTML code will not, unless you copy code, paste it here, then pick out the actual image, copy that, click on the image link here, and then paste it. Here's an example full image code:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/littleangelfire81/8506939887/" title="Tom seat by littleangelfire81, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8518/8506939887_9b3b1db0ce.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Tom seat"></a>

If you cut out justthis part right after imgsrc: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8518/8506939887_9b3b1db0ce.jpg

do not include quotes, stop after the .jpg, then paste that into the insert image link when you're writing a post, it will work that way, too.

I sometimes find that some bulletin board software is incompatible with an IMG as a link. Flickr's TOS requires that you link back, but including the title link is sufficient. I remove the url brackets from the img link. And then I delete the "by so and so and flickr" bits, too.

And it posts like this (with BB code)
