Well I post in here quite frequently but had a question. Is there any harm or danger in putting a 53 pound child who is still has about 4 inches above his head in rear facing mode. Normally he rides in a myfit harness mode but he wanted to ride backwards this morning. Seat installed with seatbelt.

There's no way to say for sure because we don't know if a seat would pass crash testing when used outside of the manufacturer's maximum limits. I would recommend against using any child safety seat in this manner. Perhaps a pound over the limit, the risk is minimal? Your child would still essentially be the crash test dummy. As you go farther over any limit, the risk increases. Assuming you had a convertible seat with a 50 pound rear-facing limit, the main risk would be that the heavier child causes more downward rotation. If the harness is a little loose or head restraint not adjusted well above their head, then the risk of head injury would increase even more.
