Is it safe for me to install a rear facing infant seat in the front middle seat of our f350? Our baby is having a hard time being in the back with his two sisters and seats to do better if he can see mommy. There is no active airbag in the middle and from my understand reading the manual that’s the only condition for being able to install in the front.

Hi Cassandra and welcome,

The back seat is always recommended for safety for any child 12 and under. Proximity to the dash and the airbags are a major concern.

That said, if the vehicle owner's manual specifically allows car seats to be installed in the front middle seat and indicates there is no airbag in that seat or that you can disable the airbag for a rear-facing car seat to be allowed there, then it is an acceptable seating position. You want to make absolutely certain of this, as an airbag is an extreme danger for a rear-facing car seat.

If you would like more information, can you please provide the year of your Ford F-350, the brand/model of car seat and the age/weight of the child.

Ford states that the airbag intrudes into the center front seat from the driver's seat. Regardless of whether the passenger seat airbag can be turned off a rear facing seat can't be installed there. It could be deadly.

If you have a newer vehicle, there won't be a switch for the front passenger seat either, unfortunately.
