I got a kick out off the bobby mac being "escape proof"! And if the seats allowed the child to see out the window.

Thanks for sharing! Interesting how some things have really changed, and some have not! Most of the "common mistakes" list is exactly the same as it would be today, though thank goodness that we don't have to worry about "failing to double straps back through buckles" any more!

Very interesting! Gotta love the olden days. Thanks for sharing. Lots of those old seats had top tethers, it looked like. I do recall making dh put a top tether hook in for one of the kids' car seats.

This is so interesting!

My kids were born in 77, 79, and 84 so I had several of these seats, all bought used with no instructions. I cringe when I look at pictures of my misuse.

The one seat even had a "dual" tether to wrap around bucket seats instead of going over top and sliding off the seat. Also, most of the seats I have come across never have the double back thru the slides. I've seen knots tied in harnesses already!

Awesome find, thanks. 79 was the year I first encountered a carseat and where my love for them began, I wish I could find a picture of the seat my godbrother rode in, I think it was the Century Trav-L-Guard (I was 7 and snuck a couple rides in it when he was in the front seat in his mother's arms ) (Unfortunately it ended up being used for 3 or 4 subsequent children in that family, including in a crash, and the decorative armrest ended up being expertly wrapped in brown packing tape one year after all the foam had been chewed off...)
