CPST Thread question - Need an IA CPST

How up-to-date is this thread?

My sis is about to have her 2nd child (her first child is 18) and wants to meet with a CPST. I want to make sure that she meets with a "good one".

I'm in CA; she's in Ames, IA. There are none on the list for Ames, but 2 in Polk County (Des Moines area, I believe) and she travels to the QCA at least 1x/mth, so I could send her there if I have to.

They (her and her DH) need to learn how to install a TFP for a newborn, the base for a hand-me-down Snugride 35 and how to install the SR35 baseless (she travels by air frequently).

I've already talked to her about using a hand-me-down seat, but it's coming from her SIL and she promised to ask all the q's I sent her. She's comfy using it, so hopefully it is safe to use.

The TFP was bought off her registry, so it is new. She plans to put it in the main car for use from birth.

Any IA techs want to tackle this? Are the people on the list still willing? Anyone not on the list that is a tech and wants to meet with them?

I know there are a bunch of really good ones in Des Moines that would probably be willing to help. Check here:

Just click on find a tech/instructor on the right of the page. I didn't see any that I know in the Ames area, but many when I did a search for Des Moines. Any of them located at Blank Children's is good and will know what they're talking about.

I live way across the country, so I have no idea on personal recommendations. Just as a general tip however, I'd suggest that they read the "What should you, as a caregiver, expect from a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST)?" article first. This way they will have an idea of what to expect, and will realize if their tech isn't quite "up-to-stuff." ;)

Also, the list you linked to in your first post is kept quite up to date. If there are any CPSTs listed that are reasonably close, I'd send them a PM and see if they might be willing to travel or meet your sis half way.

I just sent you a pm. I'm relatively close. I was in the same tech class as Brandi T at Blank, can't believe that was almost 10 yrs ago (in June)!
