Coccoro updates?

I'm newly pregnant with number 2, due in June and have had my eye on a Coccoro for some time now.

I remember reading on here somewhere that there were going to be some changes to the Coccoro in 2010 but I can't seem to find the thread. Does anyone know what those changes are and if the new version will be released in early 2010 or later?

I'm wondering if I should be keeping my eye out for good sales now (with the added benefit of getting to play with my new seat before I'm gigantically pregnant) or if I should hold out for the new version, patience not being my strongest virtue.

The new Coccoro will fit babies as small as 3 pounds. There was also rumor of them testing it with a RF tether but I haven't heard anything about that recently.

The only one I know for sure is the lower weight limit. There may be some other changes including a smaller chest clip and push on LATCH connectors. I've heard the rf tether rumor, but the Combi rep didn't mention it when I met her this fall.

I am thinking about the Coccoro too. Will there be a higher rf weight limit on the 2010? How do we find out more information about it. I wonder what the price will be.

I haven't heard anything about a higher RF weight limit, and honestly, with that shell height, I don't think a higher weight would be realistic.

You find out more information about it by reading this board. :p

The price will likely be the same.

Other than the changes Crunchy mentioned, the rep did mention a while back possibly having some kind of structural change that would make installations easier in tricky cars, but she hasn't said anything about that since.

I talked with her a couple weeks ago, and the only thing she would confirm is the lower minimum weight. She also said there would be other changes that I'd find "delightful." I'd be delighted by an RF tether, but who knows.

When do you think it is coming out? Soon or at the end of 2010?

No clue, but I just emailed the rep to find out.

I was under the assumption that it would be early in the year, but I don't think I'm basing that on anything other than wishful thinking. I'll let you know when I hear back.

When I talked to the customer service manager, he said he could say that the weight limit was being lowered to 3lbs, and that they were looking into push button latch connectors and possibly testing for a rf tether. This was about 2 weeks ago. He had no ETA for the new model.

The lower weight was supposed to come out in May of this year so I wouldn't hold my breath for the new one coming out anytime soon. Unless you're expecting an early baby, the 5# limit would be fine in that regards.

Delightful would be push-button LATCH connectors AND no puzzle buckle. That seat would then be darn near perfect for what it's trying to be.

I'd just add that even though it will "ONLY" rearface to 35lbs and all that, if you compare it to the price of an infant seat, it's really reasonable... and will last most kids longer than the larger and pricier infant seats.

if they would only give it a base to click on and off to and a double, triple, quad, etc. strollers to click onto, we'd have the perfect seat for multiples.

the coccoro can only rf to 33 lbs. ;)

I don't mind the puzzle buckle, but I was delighted to hear that push on connectors and a smaller chest clip are some of the planned enhancements (per Vera in September).

I prefer the non-puzzle buckles, but the puzzle buckle is not a deal breaker for me.

I wish it rearfaced until 35 pounds instead of 33. However, my 5 1/2 year old stepdaughter is only 36 pounds and my 9 month old is less than 16 pounds, so I doubt he will hit 33 pounds until well over 3 years old.

Where did you hear that? I was always under the impression that the 3# weight would be for the 2010 models. The seat didn't even come out until March of this year, so it would be weird to have another model come out two months later.

What are the lowest slots? Will it fit a 3# baby? Thanks.

I don't know the exact height, but with the infant insert in (required until 15 lbs), the slots are SUPER low. I think they could easily accommodate a 3-lber.

33lbs.. that was my 2nd guess... lol... but again, I compare it to an infant seat and the Roundabout (kind of a mixture, really, when you look at the size of child it holds) and when you compare it to them, again, it is not a bad seat for the price AT ALL... (a great one, IMO)

the puzzle buckle... I wouldn't like it a lot with a toddler who wasn't in a good mood, but it's not a deal breaker for me, either.

this is really my favorite convertible seat for newborns now... assuming the purchaser can afford a seat to follow it up (which is again why I reference the infant seat price... most people could, if they used it from birth, substituting the infant seat and it's cost) and also don't mind using the lack of ability to tote it around frequently (you certainly could for travel purposes, but it's not something I'd want to do regularly)

But again, I babywear and Ruthie hated her infant seat bucket so badly that the one time I did lug her in it due to weather being so bad, I ended up carrying her (having left the carrier in the car) and pushing the stroller/carseat one-handed.

Really, except maybe for short, heavy kids (who would probably be too squished in this seat anyway), there'd be no point in raising the RF limit to 35.

Here's a pic of my DD RF in this seat when she was 33 lbs. As you can see, she has outgrown the seat RF by several inches. She's average height, average torso, etc. so it's not as though she's a string bean who outgrows everything by height.

I doubt she'd even have made it to 30 lbs. RF in this seat. (She was about six weeks shy of 4Y here.)

Edited to add: She still fit in her MA/FPSVD RF at this point, with at least a couple of inches to go, just for a size reference.
