My sister is coming to the lower mainland tomorrow until July 18th and is in need of a carseat (anyone have an extra they would loan out?). Would you rent rent a roundabout (I think from TJ's for $25/week) or buy a Scenera? I told my mom to buy a Scenera but she doesn't like Cosco seats and feels a rented roundabout would be safer. So tell me what you would do? It is for 2.5weeks of use. He is 8mths and about 23lbs

She is traveling by herself from Norway. The airline she is booked with apparently has spots for a baby to sit so that is why she isn't bringing her seat.

Buy the Scenera.

I would never rent a seat, you simply don't know anything about how it's been treated / used. Not worth the risk, IM(nsh)O

I would never rent w car seat. Ever! It's history is unknown and you have so many users its likely it could be misused and damaged. What if kid peed in it and the parents washed everything including the straps? Too many unknowns. I would get a new scenera. Can you put one of tour kids in it and let her use one of your seats?

I'm in MB and she will be in BC otherwise I would just lend her my extra RN.

I'd buy the Scenera too. Unless there were no other option (I can't imagine how it could happen), I would never rent a car seat. You could also buy something like the CA at Costco.ca for $130 or the TF on sale at Zeller's for $120. Then, once she's done with it, resell it and recoup most (if not all) of her money.

Thanks everyone. My mom picked up a TF. It has a DOM of Nov 2010.
What would you sell it for once she is done? She seriously needs it for 2.5 weeks so it will be hardly used.

I'd be tempted to wait for the sale to be over then sell it for the price I paid (incl tax). Really, you can always lower your price if it doesn't sell. Normally, I think discounting for age (from DOM) plus 10-25% off the price for it being "used" is fair.

So, assuming a price of $120 plus GST (=$126)
- 9 months out of 6 years (from DOM) ~$16 (=$110)
- used car seat allowance (10-25%) ~$11-27.50 ($82.50-99)

So, IMO anywhere from $80 up to the full price you paid for it would be fair. It should get snapped up at that price since the regular price on that seat is $200 plus tax.
