Car seat in taxi for 2 year old?

We live in New York City and it is very common for people to use taxis to get around. We used to take our son everywhere in taxis in his infant car seat but since he outgrew it, we've stuck to the subway or bus. But sometimes we need to take a taxi. Can anyone give some advice? Our boy is 23 months and weighs 30 pounds (he's big). Could he use a booster for a short ride? We have a convertible seat in our car, but that is not the kind of seat you can just haul around (especially when taxis don't have LATCH). Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd take the convertible and put him in rear facing (you don't want him striking the barrier) just like he is in your car. A great seat for city dwellers is the Combi Coccoro, but it only rear faces to 33 pounds, so it won't do you much good.

Boosters are for kids who are at least four years and 40 pounds. Ideally closer to five or six. But in a city where you wouldn't be using one for long each time, and you'd be there next to him, four years old would be ok.

He meets the weight limit, but not the age limit, but a Ride Safer Travel Vest would be a nice option for you soon.

Please see the taxi section of our website for some ideas. Given the current lack of availability of the Coccoro Flash stroller, I would suggest the Safety 1st Go Hybrid (not ideal as it is forward facing only, but given the other options - i.e. booster or seat belt - would be the best, most practical option).
