Car seat in classic car

My mother has a classic car and her and the kiddo are desperate to drive it around. He has a booster seat that he does very well in, but I'm worried because the shoulder seat belts in this car don't seem to have any locking mechanism. I'm not sure if that is safe for a booster, I know it isn't for a harnessed car seat... Any thoughts? Bonus points if you have some source that I can show her! :)

Without seeing the car, it's hard to be sure. Most lap/shoulder seat belts are fine with boosters, and they don't have to be equipped with a pre-crash locking mechanism. But the belts DO need to be able to lock on impact in a crash, and if the classic car was retrofitted with aftermarket shoulder belts, there's no way to guarantee that they are safe for ANYBODY without knowing they were built by a reputable seat belt manufacturer.

The short answer is, assuming you get a good fit with the lap/shoulder belt in the booster, the car is as safe for the booster rider as it is for anybody else.

That is not to say that it's "safe" as there can be a number of safety concerns present in classic cars, and "safe" is a relative term anyway that each family needs to define. But there are no sweeping rules against using booster seats in classic cars.
