Hi,
I am searching for a rear-facing car seat (have a one-year old) that fits well in my 1999 Ford Explorer. The vehicle seat seems to tilt just enough (and the middle back seat is not flat), so that our current car seat is always tilting without something to stabilize. Yes, not safe. Do you have any economical recommendations?

Thank you,
M

First of all, welcome to Car-Seat.org! :) We're happy to have you here.

We would love to help you find the best and most economical solution for you and your little one. To help us make the best suggestion possible, I have a few quick questions for you;

(1) What is the weight of your child?

(2) What is their torso height? ( I know that sounds rather unusual, but it's important! To obtain this, simply sit him/her up against a wall and measure from the floor to shoulders)

(3) What is your goal in terms of rear-facing age? ( The longer the better. It is roughly 530 % safer than forward facing for young children! The AAP recommends until, at minimum, age 2)

You came to the right place :) Let us know the answers to these questions and we'll have suggestions for you in no time.

By "the middle back seat is not flat", do you mean the seat is not *level* or that it's a 60/40 split and the carseat leans towards the split? We've had loads of rearfacing and forward facing carseats in my family's Explorers and Mountaineers over the years.

I'm assuming the center/middle seat in the rear has a retractable lap belt only, no shoulder belt, b/c of the year. What car seat are you currently using?
