That black thing is like a peg. I use a butter knife and carefully pry around it until it pops out. It is about 5/8" long FWIW.
I always took my cover off around the peg. The peg stayed attached to the seat? So happy my Radian days are over! lol

Honestly you dont need a knife or pliers. Take the safe stop that should be attached to your seat, slide it under the plug so its lying flat against the seat, then pull up. It pops right out. I also leave the plug out after Ive taken it out for the first time as the cover stays on just fine without it

I traded 80SL covers with someone here, and when I got the new one I couldn't find the holes in the covers to put the pegs through. It stays on fine without the pegs but I prefer to have the pegs in. If I could find the dang holes.
