Question best family car for two car seats

I am expecting my second baby this spring. I am in need of a vehicle that can accommodate two car seats plus space to comfortably seat an adult in between the car seats. I'd like to avoid getting a huge SUV. Looking for the space without driving a huge gas guzzling vehicle. Thanks for your help.

How old is your current child? Your car seat selection can make most mid size sedans work. Keep in mind if your older child is still rearfacing, it'd be easier to put their seats beside each other with the adult on the side. It is recommended to keep kids rearfacing as close to 4 as possible. Also, not all vehicles have proper head support in the middle seat. We have a minivan so I'm not sure which cars are best. We have an older Accord and it would work with the right car seats.

Definitely make sure that whatever car you get has a headrest and a full shoulder/lap belt in the middle of the back seat. You can look into getting two radians or foonfs (the narrowest car seats) if you find a car you love but it doesn't have much space in the back.
