I'm interested in your opinion about which convertible car seat is best for children who are required to be rear facing until 2 yrs. I have a cx-5 crossover. The leg room is quite generous, but my experience with these car seats is that they are too long. My wife and I are both taller then 6 feet and require the seat be pushed back. I looked at your article on the Graco 4-ever installed into a civic. I'ld be interested in the picture, including the entire side of the front seat. The depth measurement of 21.5 inches doesn't tell me the depth it has when in the rear facing setup.

Re: Best car seat for toddlers in crossovers.

Hi!

The issue with measurements is that seats are going to install differently in different cars and take up different room. This comparison of seats to each other may be helpful: http://carseatblog.com/22818/the-ul...ertible-space-comparison-review-size-matters/ The Chicco Nextfit is often particularly compact in "sporty" cars I've found; also it is a good idea to try out multiple seats before buying if you have a baby store nearby that will let you.

Are you aware that ideally, children should rear face beyond 2, preferably to 4 years or the height or weight maximums of the seat, whichever comes first? :)

Re: Best car seat for toddlers in crossovers.

I had a 2014 Ford Focus but traded it in for a 2016 Ford Escape, needed more cargo space. I had a Britax Advocate Clicktight that did NOT fit well, front seat had to be quite forward. I now have a Chicco Nextfit and it fits in center rear facing and both driver and passenger seats can be all the way back. Behind passenger seat if I remeber correctly the seat could be back most (if not all the way). My son is almost 22 months and already close to 35". He is 91% for height. He has a ton of leg room and is very comfortable in the seat.

Re: Best car seat for toddlers in crossovers.

The Advocate ClickTight is one of the more compact seats on the market, since it can sit nearly as upright as needed to fit. The question is not fit to car, but rather comfort for child (or perceived comfort by parent, depending on the child's age).

The Graco Extend2Fit/Extend2Fit 3 in 1 and Safety 1st Grow and Go EX Air are also great for super tall kids AND super tall parents who need room in the front. They're tall seats with high rear facing weight and height limits, and they take up little room front to back when they're placed pretty upright for a toddler.

Re: Best car seat for toddlers in crossovers.

In Canada folks: Graco Extend2Fit/Extend2Fit 3 in 1 and Go EX Air are not here, nor is the NextFit. 4Ever is meant to be coming in October-ish but it isn't here yet. Safety 1st Grow IS here but only has a single recline line so doesn't fit the same way as the US version.

OP - you have lots of options if you install in the centre, less so if you must have it outboard. Can you share more details about your needs? The age, weight, and height of your child specifically? And I echo the recommendation to rear-face beyond two years, the longer the better. Making a compact, well-fitting choice now will of course make that much easier to do!
