Beetle convertible and radian?

A gal has a beetle convertible and a radian. She said that Diono said she could use the lower anchors even though she doesn't have the top tether.

Has anyone else heard this?

I don't think it is possible to have lower anchors without a top tether. A car manufacturer wouldn't put in lower anchors without the TT - they work as a system.

TAs not required for convertibles by FMVSS 225 and CMVSS 210.

So yes, some vehicles can have lower anchors and no tethers.

In 213 compliance testing all forward-facing CRs are tested (and must pass HE requirements) using just lower anchors. It's a little redundant because they also have to test with lap belt only (with and without tether) but it's required nonetheless.

ETA: in both cases (LA only and lap belt only) the seats are allowed more HE.
