Baseless embrace installation

I have the manual and it's confusing if you are installing with a lap-shoulder belt.

The manual says to use a locking clip if your latch plate slides freely and the belt has elr. It shows the locking clip on and the shoulderbelt threaded through both belt guides on the seat.

In another photo, it shows no locking clip, only the lap belt in the guides, and the shoulderbelt tucked up in front (by the baby's feet) of the seat.

If the seatbelt locks at the retractor, do you still have to use a locking clip?

No, if it locks at the retractor you don't have to use a locking clip. Evenflo defers to the vehicle manual when there's a conflict and switching a seatbelt to alr is allowed. It might be in their FAQ but I'm not totally sure.
