adding tethers to 2015 Chevy Traverse

Hi everyone. I just purchased this car, and didn't realize until I got it home that there was only one tether in the back row. I tried to return the car (believe me I tried VERY hard) but since their is latch back there just no tethers I can't claim that they misled me. Even though I believe they did. They said they can't install anything after market, but I wanted to check around and be sure. Does anyone know if maybe there is something that can be done?

thank you!

Welcome to car-seat.org! I'm sorry to say that no, you can't add aftermarket tether anchors to a vehicle that already has factory tether anchors. What are the ages and weights of your kids? Maybe we can help you with seating patterns that will have everyone riding as safely as possible.

Can you try telling the dealer that latch does not mean just the anchors? Latch stands for lower anchors and tethers for children. So if they said it had latch, that means tethers technically!

I tried just about everything with the dealer. I did specifically ask if there were three available LATCH in the third row. There are lower anchors in each position, but only a tether in the middle. I'm not sure if he really lied, technically I can install cars eats in those spaces, they just have to be rear facing. (And really small at that since there isn't a lot of room. ). Is it 100% that the LATCH means an over the seat tether? If so I guess he misrepresented that to me.

As a previous poster said, LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. (Yes, 100%!) So yes, LATCH does mean it has a top tether.

There are NOT lower anchors in all third row seating positions in that vehicle. If they told you there were that's a blatant lie. There are NO lower anchors for car seats at all in the third row of a 2015 Traverse and only one top tether anchor located in the center seat. The only locations with lower anchors are the middle row outboard seats.

Can you tell us what seats you need to put in this vehicle and the ages of the children? We may be able to come up with a reasonable solution, despite the shortcomings of this particular vehicle.

I just wanted to be able to put two forward facing kids in the third row safely. Without two tethers, I can't. I am able to get them in the car so it's not that I can't use the vehicle, I just can't use it the way that I had intended. Had I know, I am 100% certain I wouldn't have purchased it, because I didn't gain any flexibility from the car I already had.

Did anyone figure this out? I’m struggling with this for my 2011 and wish I would’ve known. I want to put my forwards facing kids back there since it’s much easier that way but need to install tethers

If your newer vehicle lacks factory LATCH anchors in a seating position, it is not possible to add one. If you would like to tell us the ages and weights of the children, make/model/year of the vehicle and brand/model of carseats we may be able to help find the best alternatives.
