5pt harness/booster transition

Hi! Our son will be 5 in October and he's currently right at the height limit for his Graco Sequence (49"). I recently bought the Graco Tranzitions on Prime Day figuring I'd just grab it as an option and that we had until at least his birthday to switch him (not realizing how tall he already is.)

The state of CT requires kids under 5 to be in a 5 point harness. If we switch him to the Tranzitions now, does that 5 point count? Or no, since it's a booster? Or is there a better option for a very tall kid? He's only around 50lbs, so I was hoping he'd be in the Sequence longer. Thanks!

Hi, I'm in CT too! Any 5 point harness counts, whether it's a convertible or combination seat, so no worries there. Also, maturity and behavior has to be considered when switching to a belt-positioning booster. The child needs to be able to sit in the correct position for the entire ride even though the seat belt allows more movement than a harness. My kid was 7 before they reached the minimum weight and the maturity to ditch the harness, so don't rush. You'll get there!

Oh, we definitely don't want to rush it! He was the last rear facing kid we know and we only switched when he topped out the height limit.

Thanks for the info on the harness rules! Exactly what I needed to know!

Sorry, a follow up.
The Tranzitions seat only allows 5 point harness to 49", which he is now. It doesn't buy us any more time than his current Sequence seat for that. Does anyone know of a seat that allows 5 point harness with a height greater than 49"?

Unfortunately, due to new testing and leveling regulations, basically no one does.
But we went over that in your other thread, so I'll let that discussion stand. :)
