Hi! Come October, we will have a newborn in a rear facing seat, a 6 year old in a 5 point harness, and an 8 year old in a high back or regular booster. We'd like to consider the option of keeping both of our cars, but likely will need to either transition our 8 year old to a regular booster (hoping that could be the key) or switch both our 6 and 8 year olds into completely new seats to fit 3 wide. What is the best combination of rear facing seat, 5 point harness, and either high back or regular booster to fit 3 wide?

Both these back seats are tight, and both have contours that can make installation trickier or limit placement of car seats. If anything is able to work, I expect it might be two very narrow seats- I would look at the Graco SlimFit3 LX - and a booster that either tapers a lot (like the Diono Solana) or has no arm rests and is very narrow (the Peg Perego Viaggio Flex 120.) I would buy from somewhere with easy returns and see what works. I would also suggest that you install both car seats with seatbelt (no lower anchors) and that you use the seating positions that have buckles next to each other for them; that way you don't worry about the booster rider unbuckling the seat next door.
