Hello!

I've been trying to search for information on the best high back boosters for the dodge caravan captains chairs.

I've found a lot about the back seat issues, but wanted to research best fitting for the captains chairs exclusively.

My son is 7 yo, 43lbs and 46 inches (3 ft 10) and currently in a safety 1st alpha (which we are aware isn't recommended as a booster: hence the search for a high back booster to replace it!)

I've read up on booster readiness and I'm confident he would be ready for the change.

We are in no rush to change over to a booster, he still has height in the current seat but would like to have recommendations so we can save up and not run into problems with install.

Thank you!

Welcome!

Can you please confirm the exact model of harnessed seat you are using? If it is the Alpha Omega, it may have a 40 pound harness limit.

Do any seating positions in your Grand Caravan have non-removable head restraints? Many Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler vehicles have fixed head rests that angle forward to provide whiplash protection for adults. The problem is that if they can't be removed, this type may be incompatible with some high back boosters. For example, many Britax, Graco and Chicco manuals have diagrams and instructions that prohibit a gap between the high back section of the booster and the vehicle seat back.
In this case, the easiest option for a 7 year old, 43 pound child is to use a backless booster, or the backless mode of high back boosters and combination seats that offer a backless mode. Another option would be to seek out high back boosters that allow such a "gap" caused by vehicle head restraints. Nuna boosters generally do not prohibit such a gap, but you would need to verify. Many Diono boosters specifically allow such a gap, as long as the booster head support section contacts the vehicle seat or head restraint. Be sure to get a free returns policy just in case you don't like it or it is incompatible for any reason!

This is a reasonable deal on the Cambria 2: https://amzn.to/3ZLLwGa . Monterey and Nuna Aace tend to be a little nicer but also more expensive.
