Toddlers & Teenagers - Toyota Sienna AWD or Large SUV (Suburban, Tahoe XL or Expedition EL)

We have 15, 13, 11 (Older 2 are adult sized boys) PLUS 1-2 Foster Kiddos usually infant + toddler.

I have an Expedition, but fitting hockey bags or double stroller gets tricky when we have a full crew.

Replacing hubby's Ford Flex.

All options above have trunk space we'd like - prefer to go minivan for price, gas mileage & maneuverability- but will the big kids be squashed?

Re: Toddlers & Teenagers - Toyota Sienna AWD or Large SUV (Suburban, Tahoe XL or Expedition EL)

I personally think there is more adult sized passenger room in an SUV. But I know lots and lots of people think there is just as much room in a minivan.
I also see way more usable cargo room in a large SUV.

Of the ones you mentioned in the title, the Expedition EL has the most room in the third row.

Is there any way to test out both types with the whole crew?

I can't imagine fitting that many kids plus hockey gear in a mini van.

We have 3 kids (15 (boy), 13 (boy) & 11 (girl). Also 20 Month Old FS (RF) in Graco Milestone/Maxi Cosi Pria 85 & occ. another FS/FD infant in Chicco Keyfit).

2013 Suburban - thought I would love, but ruled it out b/c:
1. 3rd row is beyond cramped. My boys had their knees up to their chins & hardly room for their feet
2. No Latch in 2nd row behind drivers seat. (Not a deal breaker, but inconvenient)
3. The 2nd row folds as 2 behind drivers side & 1 behind passenger side which limits installation options for access to 3rd row.
4. The 3rd row doesn't fold flat - u have to wrestle huge seats out if transporting something big

2014 Sienna AWD
1. More storage room behind 3rd row than Suburban or Expedition XL due to depth of well (did a test w/2 adult sized hockey bags) - they fit in the Sienna best
2. 3rd row less width than Suburban/Expedition, but able to sit 2 200# adults & 1 85# tween & all buckle & sit comfortably
3. Can only seat 7 vs. 8 (AWD doesn't have 8th seat option)
4. More maneuverable than Suburban & Expedition EL

2016 Expedition EL
1. 2 hockey bags fit behind 3rd row
2. 3rd row quickly & easily folds flat
3. 3rd row is roomy & comfortable for adults & teens
4. 2nd row seats give many options as all 3 seats fold independently of each other
5. All seats in second row offered latch option

We currently have a 2010 Expedition (regular length) & 2009 Ford Flex.

To replace the flex, the Sienna is our 1st Choice

When we replace our Expedition (currently at 98K & runs like new, so hope this is far off) - the Expedition EL will be our 1st Choice.

Side note - I had a Honda Odyssey in the past & loved, but awful in the snow. If u live where snow not an issue, another great choice.

Hope this helps someone!

:)
