Question 2 part question - expecting baby #3

We just found out we are expecting baby #3 and my 3yr old will be FFing by the time the new baby is here. I was thinking about handing down the 2 britax g4.0 seats we have to the new baby to be used from birth and go ahead and purchase a combination seat for my then almost 4yr old.

2 questions:

How well do the g4.0 really fit newborns and would they work for small newborns at all? (my biggest baby was 6lbs 14oz and my smallest was 3lbs 9oz and came home right at 4lbs)

I noticed that the harmony defender wasn't on the recommendation list. Is there a reason? I really need a narrow long lasting option so it was at the top of my list. If there is a reason to consider others what would be just at narrow and last just as long if not longer in harness and booster mode?

I think Britax sells an infant insert for the g4 seats. I don't know how little they fit though.
And congrats!

I'm not sure exactly how seats make the list or not, but the Defender is often specifically recommended around here.

The Graco Tranzitions/Wayz (same seat at different retailers) has similar stats in terms of width, top weight, and top harness height. Also price.

I believe all the G4 convertibles are rated for 5+ lbs. Do you have the infant insert? Generally with the infant insert will fit newborns ok, but if you have smaller than a 5lb baby you'll definitely need a back up plan!

I used a G4.1 Boulevard for my newest little one. In the end I purchased the infant positioning insert that Britax sells. It made the fit much better for my baby. He would slouch to the side without it. I think I used it for the first two months or so.

I love my Defender and have used it as the primary seat for three years now. My son grew out of the harness (by harness length and weight) at 5.5 years but he is a big kid. He now uses it in booster mode. If you have any questions about the seat let me know...
