Field Trip!

A has his first kindergarten field trip next month. They are going 3 (if that) miles up the road to the Ranch to learn about pumpkins and harvesting and taking a school bus to get there. I know that the bus is safer than a car. However, this is my 5.5 year old child that is still harnessed unless he is the only kid in the car (in which I'll allow him his booster depending on if the driver is able to give him reminders as necessary to stay sitting properly in his booster...and remembers to lock the seatbelt as an extra reminder). I'm a bit worried about impulse control on the bus. I don't think he'll try to get up and run around, but I am worried about him thinking it is funny to try and slide down to the ground, lean out in the aisles, and various other things that only he can imagine.

I don't know if I'll be able to get the day off to be a chaperon (and then that leaves the problem of my 3 year old since we can't bring tag-a-longs). What to do? Keep him home from school? Beat (j/k!) into him bus safety rules? Request to the teacher she has an adult sit with him?

Talk to his teacher about your concerns and ask if s/he can sit next to him, or assign an adult to, that's what I'd do. I know when I was a kid, kids who had difficulty staying seated on the bus for field trips would have a teacher, assistant, or chaperone come sit next to them (at the teacher's discretion.) It seemed to work reasonably well. ;)
