    Parkway only booster without armrests?

Because my MIL is determined not to put the seatbelt in the notches/under the armrests. I cannot beat this into her head. My own cooperative mom is having having a hard time remembering it too but at least she doesn't get snippy when I remind her.

So is there anything else without armrests?

Yeah, that's the only one (well, dedicated booster, anyway).

    Drat!

Do you think a turbo booster would be easier for them to use?

Right now it is a vivo and I could understand that the notches would be a little harder to remember.

I'm always surprised by people misusing the Turbo (belts behind the armrests ), so I dunno... maybe you can train them? Do you have a store near you with a Compass B510? (The one with the deep headwings, also the 540...premier and, um...ultra?) If you could try it in the car and make sure the lapbelt is low enough, then the flip up armrests might be helpful.

*shrug* dunno.....no real life experience, I just know it has no arms.
Is this for the 4.5 yo? Can you just teach him to buckle homself?? DD got a backup hbtb at 4.5, and it only took her a couple weeks before she could buckle it easily. Or at the very least, he could be taught to say "grandma, the belt goes here..."

Re: Parkway only booster without armrests?

Once IIHS stuck it in the not recommended category, I wrote it off... http://www.iihs.org/research/topics/...commended.html
but Kimberly (Safeinthecar) does love hers. I also don't think it's very good in SIP.

Is the Vivo really too hard to figure out?

PS, yes, I know the B510 is on that IIHS list, too, but at least I've known quite a few kids that it actually fits well...I see more 'lapbelt rides too high' real life complaints on the BKC, not sure why Kim's the lucky one it works for? lol

    I didn't think so

I mean, all they have to do is put the belt in the notches but I don't know if its that the notches are black like the rest of the booster and they need some sort of visual reminder. 9 times out of 10, they just buckle the belt and very carefully (and ironically) slide the shoulder belt into the red belt guide and forget the lap belt. My own mom really does the best but still forgets but DH's mom is a ditz (as in, not dumb, just doesn't pay attention unless she wants to).

If the frontier wasn't a bear to move and if the radian wasn't way more reclined in their cars making him have just a smidge of room, I wouldn't worry about a booster. *sigh* Oh, and if he hadn't turned out to be a perfect booster kid. Only twice since we started booster training in May has he needed to be reminded to sit back. I would have never thought it.

If you get a Turbo, would you be able to train J to route the belts correctly once the adult has buckled him in? I wouldn't expect him to be able to actually buckle the belt, but once the adult has buckled him perhaps he can move the belts under the arms as needed.

Once I started emphasizing to A and to my mom that the seatbelt goes in the "red" on the turbo, things have gotten much better. He knows to check every time and she can't remember what side of the arm rests the belt goes on if you ask her, but she can tell you that the belt must lie in the red all the time.
