SO ... DS has started school. And everyday when I go to drop him off or pick him up I am afronted with the widespread misuse / nonuse... of carseats.

NC has a good law! 8 years or 80 lbs.... (better then some states where its still 6/60)... however they totally suck when it comes to enforcement, education.. and all that.

I tried asking the principal if she could do a PSA in the school newsletter and was given a big fat NO.I ordered from USAA some pamphlets to hand out. but... she also said I could not, "distibute literature on school grounds".

So what do you other mamas do? .. I seriously feel sick to my stomach by some of the things I have seen recently. :crying:

I "abuse" my position as the treasurer and a board member of my son's preschool to ensure that info about local carseat checks are included in the "local events of interest section" of our monthly newsletter. I've also lobbied for info about ERF, booster and seat belt readiness, car seat checks and how to get a reduced price seat to be included in the info packets that Help Me Grow, Job and Family Services and the public preschool hand out to their clients/families.

In your case, I would contact the PTA/PTO if your school has one and see if they are willing to publicize local car seat checks or at least link to useful websites or include an article on car safety in their next newsletter. You could also contact the district superintendent to see if he or she would be more receptive to your ideas about promoting car safety.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get people in this town to take car seat safety seriously. We have little kids in the front seat unbuckled, wrong seats, babies too big for their seats. The in-home daycare next door is horrible for this, I was outside installing DDs Oobr yesterday and someone brought out a napping little one, she looked like a very young 2, they were putting her in a TB.
