Question Can't decide on which car... help!

We had a 2010 Toyota Corolla S. We were in an accident and it was totaled. Luckily, we were all okay including my 2 1/2 year old in the backseat. He was on the side impacted!

Our first choice is to get another 2010 Toyota Corolla S. We loved that car! However, the IIHS just named the Mazda 3 the safest small car because of it's 5 star ratings. A lot of reviews indicate it is a slightly safer car than the Corolla.

We cannot decide because Toyota is known for its reliability. We don't know how reliable the Mazda 3 is. JD Power and Associates predicted reliability of the Mazda 3 is a 4.0/10.0 and the Corolla is a 8.0/10.0

I want the safest car, but I also want one that will last!

    What would you choose

Re: Can't decide on which car... help!

You probably can't go wrong either way safety-wise, and it does seem like your Corolla just proved itself worthy of that rating first hand in your own crash. Glad you're all relatively okay, by the way. I also noticed you were touting Toyotas in several other recent threads asking about used car purchases, and I think you might have indirectly answered your own question for yourself. IIHS.org deemed both the 2010 Mazda 3 and the 2009-2010 Corolla as Top Safety Picks when equipped with ESC (electronic stability control, optional on the 2010 Mazda 3 and 2009 Corolla, standard on the 2010 Corolla), and ideally you would get ESC on whichever model you choose.
