Wording in Ford manuals, does yours say this?

I was re-reading my 2005 Ford Expedition manual to make sure (again) that it's ok for a carseat to touch the front seat. I didn't see anything anywhere that stated it's not, but I did read something interesting. It had a section on boosters where it described backless and high back boosters. After description with diagram of each it said: Any position with a lap/shoulder belt can be used with either type as long as your child is 40lbs. So, for those of you with fords, does your manual say this also? It doesn't say not to use a booster if your child is under 40lbs, but that's how I would interpret it.

I was really impressed at some of the language in the last few Ford manuals I read. They say that rear-facing is safest and rear-facing convertibles should be used to the maximum weight and height limits, that a harnessed seat is safest and children should use it until it is outgrown, etc.

Mine actually had a small flashcard style thing with it about rear facing over 1 and 20 and such also. I was very impressed with that. I'm just wondering with the boosters, though, are they actually saying you can't use one in their vehicles unless your child is 40lbs? Can a vehicle manufacturer actually set limits like that, or do the booster seat limits still apply? I wouldn't put a child under 40lbs in a booster, but if someone wanted to could you really tell someone that the vehicle manual prohibits it therefore they can't?

You could point it out in the manual.

I mean people do stuff all the time contrary to vehicle and car seat manufacturer instructions. If they're determined to do it that's not gonna phase them. But for those who honestly want to follow the instructions but aren't convinced, it might be a tool to help convince them. (Now, can we get the other vehicle manufacturers on board? ;) )

interesting. Sort of lke the 34 inch height limit to ff in a dorel seat, I think that ford implying a 40 lb booster minimum might be enough to convince *some* parents to follow better practice guides....
