Seat belt buckle

I have a roudabout rf in the passenger side outboard seat in 98 toyota corolla. It is hard to get the seat belt tight because when the belt is pulled tight the buckle pulls up into the lockoff area. The short strap that the buckle is connected to is just too long. The seat does not seem tight enough (I can move it) until I tether it, then it won't budge, but I would like to find out a way to get the belt tighter. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Mark

Hi Mark.

You're right that you want the seat to be installed tightly before using the tether.

You can twist the buckle stalk up to 6 times without compromising safety. Twisting the buckle stalk will pull the latchplate down and out of the belt path of the car seat.

Heather, I'm sorry if I sound a bit stupid here, but when you say twist up to 6 times, is that 6 complete turns or just 6 turns which would be 3 complete turns?

Thanks
Mark

Thank you, you didn't confuse me, I think I confused myself. Which is very easy to do these days.:)

Thanks again your help is much appreciated.

I MUCH appreciate this discussion about getting the "female" end of the car's buckle out of the belt routing area of the car seat.

Good clarification of "6 turns" being 1/2 or complete. I just recently heard of twisting the stalk, and wondered how many turns would be the max. permissible before possibly compromising the seat belt's safety. In reading this, I immediately had the same question about half-turns vs. full turns. Excellent !
