Higher RF weight limits and rebounding...

Isn't this going to be a problem? I don't quite exactly understand, so maybe you all can help. Won't the seats start to require some sort of an anti-rebound bar? Like they do in other countries? Especially with the new 45lb RF XT coming up.

I think the issue is more about downward rotation than rebounding. Yes, the Radian does tether RFing, and a tether does limit rebounding but not downward rotation (well, unless you do the "out and back" tethering, but I don't know if the Radian allows that). I'd really like to see a foot prop on ERF seats.

Rebound isn't a concern, and I don't see how a heavier child would change the physics. Over-rotation is a concern, but obviouslyif it has a 45 lb limit it has passed testing and I'm not worried.

If they pass without it, they don't need it. If they need it, they will have it. I'm not sure exactly why you're concerned -- I don't mean it snarkily, but if the seats pass as designed, then they pass.

I think it's a valid concern. A test bench doesn't have door pillars for heads to whack into in severe rear/side impacts, so who knows how great a seat with higher weight limits will perform IRL? Think there's a reason they don't show RF crash tests in the CA selling videos? I bet that thing bounces WAY back and though we know it's not dangerous, it still looks scary.
I don't know that there's really any data on heavier kids RF--tethered versus untethered--in this country, but I personally feel a bit more comfortable with a tethered Radian/Britax or ARB TF, and someone mentioned at Lifesavers last year that anti-rebound is going to be more of a design priority in the future.

But as far as we know, yeah, it passes just fine and technically we aren't supposed to be worried. ;)

I think this is a valid concern also. No Swedish seats without an anti-rotation device around the back of the seat exsists. Not even the Britax Two Way Elite which doesn´t appear to have anything to stop a downward rotation in a crash comes without such device. This seat has a clamp that you brace on the edge of the rear seat.

And even if the new Radian is to be tehtered towards the rear of the car (top tether anchor points) I would worry, Because the tether strap is going to be like a rubber band like so.

This is an Australian convertiable car seat:

This seat (SnS/Safe n´Sound) Rfs to 28 lbs and 3rd. harness slot

For comparison: European ERF Isofix seat to 40 lbs and tethered towards the front plus supportleg:

http://www.autoliitto.fi/testit_ja_ajoneuvot/lasten_turvaistuimet/britax_fixway_2009/

This seat Rfs to 40 lbs/18 kg and is tested with a dummy the size of an average sized 3 year old

MAJOR difference here
