We all know the hard truth that lots of kids die in car crashes each year. However we also know that the majority of those children are either completely unrestrained, or inadequately restrained. We also know that even grossly misused car seats still offer a great deal of protection in a crash.
Knowing this, does it in some way comfort you that the majority of death/injuries are due to non use or misuse? Does it make you more secure that your child is as safe as possible in a properly used age appropriate restraint in the back seat of a safe vehicle?
I realize that this is, in a way, a false sense of security (since even a RF 4 year old in the center seat of a minivan in a properly installed seat still can die in a crash), but it does say something that, in reality, very few children die in crashes each year (as a percentage of the children involved in crashes) and most of them were not as safe as they should/could have been in the first place. Like in the Kyle video. His sister was in a horribly misused booster in a van with no advanced safety features in a rollover accident and yet she STILL lived and wasn't injured.
So, am I just a nitwit?
