Trying to help a friend - convertible recommendations

I have a friend who is looking for a convertible car seat. She's hoping to buy it at Sears as she has some gift cards she'd like to use. I need help recomending one for her. He is 5 months old, 19 lbs and quite long. He hasn't outgrown his infant seat yet, but she wants to start looking and get something soon. I think she's had enough of the bucket :) Also, she has an older minivan (I don't remember the brand) with captain's chairs in the second row.
I think I've convinced her to rf at least until age 2. What are seats that I can have her try that rf to 35 lbs from Sears (and are all around decent)?

Is it possible that Zellers will be having a sale on Truefits in the near future (just as another option)?

Another question, does the EFTA rearface to 35 lbs in Canada? I thought it did, but I could be confusing it with something else.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm... it would seem the only option at Sears that RF to 35lbs is the Avenue. A bit pricey for what it is, though. :twocents: Sears used to have the EFTA, but it looks like they're not carrying it anymore (I didn't see it in store a couple of weeks ago either. :shrug-shoulders:) It unfortunately doesn't RF to 35lbs here (only to 30.)

The TF goes on sale pretty frequently at Zellers - it's quite likely it will again soon.

HTH! :)

I was just looking at the High Weight sticky and it mentioned that the Dorel/Cosco/Eddie Bauer 3-in-1's rf to 35 lbs (the new ones). Is that an ok seat? I've told her that generally the 3-in-1's make crappy boosters, but I'm just trying to give her options.

The new Dorel 3 in 1's make fine seats. Make sure that she knows to looks on the box to make sure that it really is a 35/50lb seat and not to use it as a booster, but otherwise they'd be just fine.

 Of course! I'm so used to skipping by those that they don't even register anymore, sorry.

Yes, the new 35/50lb models would be a good option. With the top slot now being usable in harness mode, they should be quite long-lasting. (But, as said before, they're not good boosters.)
