Suggestions for a 98 Dodge Durango

My uncle is selling his durango and we are in need of a bigger vehicle to accomodate (soon to be) two car seats and about once a month an 80lb dog.

We borrowed it for the weekend and I have had a really hard time installing DD's car seat. It's an AOE. The seats in the durango are really slanted - a lot more so than our car, and leather so I find it slippery. I'm working on convincing DH we need a new car seat anyway.

Anyone have any suggestions? DH is tall and his seat sits pretty far back, so that's an issue.

DD is currently 17 months and 21lbs and approx 30-31 inches.

Thanks!!

Not sure about the specific vehicle, but here's a couple of thoughts:

- have you tried installing the AOE with and without the base? Is the seat sloped enough to require a tighlty rolled towel or pool noodles to achieve a correct recline (no need to have a full 45 degrees for a 17mo unless there are special needs)

- if you do look at a new seat, check out those listed here (ignore the harnessed/booster combination seats, they are FF only):

These seats should give you a longer useful life either RF or harnessing longer than your current AOE. Post back with any questions.

- when you have the dog, is it riding in a crate in the back, or in the seats? Make sure the dog is restrained in some way, either in a crate which is in the back or has seatbelt attachments, or using a pet travel vest - someone here can direct you. You do NOT want to have the dog unrestrained in the passenger compartment as in a crash he would be injured AND make a very heavy projectile putting all of you at risk.

I have not tried with the base in the Durango. I have it in the car without so I only tried it without. I have TWO towels rolled tightly together and it's not enough under there.

The dog is secured in the back. I appreciate that you asked though. Last time I posted a question and mentioned the dog I got few people jump to the assumption that the dog is loose/unrestrained and 'lectured' on restraining the dog, completely forgetting to answer the actual question I had posted.

Glad to hear that the dog is secured. I always *try* to remember not to assume. :)

I would try the AOE with the base (in full recline for RF install) and then possibly a towel besides if it needs it. But even if you get a good install, I would consider switching the seat out if you dislike it every time you use it.
