I just came home from visiting my sister. She told me she was concerned about the install of their convertible seat and asked me to check it for her. It was awful. The seat was in there so loosely I was able to completely fold it forward without touching the belt. It was installed without a locking clip and clearly needed it. I was able to reinstall it for her. It was technically tight enough, although not the rock solid install I try to get, since I am just not that great at seat belt installs and locking clips (I am spoiled by LATCH).
It was an old Cosco Touriva and not at all comfortable. She expressed that she was willing to buy a new seat if I could find one that would work for her situation so I thougt I would run it by you ladies. She has 5 kids and a 7 passenger full size Chevy van. The rearseat only has 2 shoulder belts and 1 lap belt, which means a convertible seat much be in that seat, no boosters. Her children are ages 8, 7, 5, 3 and 10 months and they all run very small for their ages. The 8, 7, and 5 year olds are in high back boosters, I didn't catch which ones. The 3 year old is FF in a Cosco forward facing seat (I think it converts to a booster). Then she has the baby in the Touriva, RF, in one of the captain's chairs. She was planning to FF her once she hit 1 year, but I think I convinced her to keep her rear-facing. I don't think she will do it beyond 2 years though, and this child is tiny so no need for a high limit RF. Her main concern is that the seat be narrow enough to fit between two HB boosters so she can move it to the backseat once her 3 year old is in a booster. She doesn't plan to move the 3 year old for awhile because she is also tiny and will fit her convertible for at least 1 or 2 more years. She wants to get one that has the EPS foam and doesn't want to drop enough for a Radian, but is willing to spend up to about $200. What seats would you recommend that could do this? I'm sure there must be, since this is a full size van, not a minivan. Thank you for reading through this long post and any help you may offer.
