I bought this to have for my nephew to use when I baby-sit him. I've only had it about 6 month, and its only been used rarely. I was watching him today and noticed he needed the straps moved up. After I got it out of the car to change the strap, I see this -

I have NO idea when or how this happened. Is the seat still safe to use? I'm now using the holes above the bottom. I'll call SK tomorrow.

Thanks

Oh no!! :( :(

Could it have maybe fallen over and landed on something? I know with my Radian it always likes to tip over on me

It's hard to tell from the pictures just how bad the damage is, but I probably wouldn't use the seat. Do you have a backup you can use? If not, maybe there is a member near you that can let you borrow a seat in the meantime. If you were using some straps way further up, I might be ok with using it.

Is the EPS foam cracked too? Did you buy it new? Has it ever been in a crash? Have you ever loaned it out to someone?

I don't think it could have fallen on anything hard enough to do that kind of damage. It's stored in the house when not in use. :shrug-shoulders:

My biggest concern now is if it is still safe to use.

I think I would be ok with using it temporarily if you absoulutely have to go out and only until you can get an answer from SKJP or get a replacement, but only because the harness doesn't go into that slot.

Does the crack go all the way through to the front side? (that might make a difference too!)

I most definitely wouldn't use it. That part of the shell is still going to be taking force in a collision because the harness adjuster strap and the back of the harness run along the length of that and the whole bottom back of the seat would have pressure put on it - not as much with a rf'ing child as a ff'ing child, but given the odd type of damage, I'd have concerns about the integrity of the shell and if it is defective or something. Especially in the absence of a known incident that could've caused damage to the seat.

I absolutely would not be comfortable using that seat.

Have you ever checked it under an airplane?
