CPST Instructor
so after checking with the another CPSTI in my area, a guy who works for the county traffic safety and is kinda the big who-ha in the area we were still unsure about who was doing this carseat informational thing at BRU last night so i went to check it out
here is my email back to my instructor friend needless to say i was not amused!
Please check out any ones near you and try to steer them towards contacting real techs!
Bill-
ok, so it was bad, reaaaal bad. i arrived at 6:30 and was directed to
the registry area where an obviously upset employee met us. she
introduced herself as danielle and asked us to gather in the carseat
area.
Danielle then told us about the infant seats which all now go up to 30
lbs. she highlighted how britax was the safest carseat because all
others are tested at 55mph and britax contracts a second testing at
65moh clearly showing they are safer.
she then strongly recommended the britax infant seat ( although she
did not talk about it's ARB which i would see as it's biggest selling
point. (as an aside they don't cary the chaperone or frontier in store)
she then told us that when your childs legs are starting to touch
the seat back it is time for a convertible, took us right to the
britax and talked about how the HUGS kept the straps from being
twisted(she called them rubber strap protectors) then talked about
how you might need to adjust the straps depending on what the child
was wearing. another mom asked about strap tightness and she gave the
two finger rule, so i said excuse me, but maybe i can clarify, while
you are right that was an old guideline we are currently, using the
pinch test...
i think it was at this point that she realized i might be a tech, and
asked me if i was, she stated she had taken her son to a check once
and knew a little, but was so glad i was there, she then directed the
rest of the questions in my direction.
afterwards i stayed to talk to her and apologized for not talking to
her before, and told her i didn't want her to feel like i was stepping
on her toes, she was very nice and told me how much she appreciated my
help and stated that they were supposed to have a script and a video
to show but it did not come in in time and she hadn't wanted to even
do the seminar.
gently told her how dangerous it could be to hand out wrong
information (oye it just fot worse and worse as she told us how bigger
kids don't need boosters and we should flip them if their feet hit the
seat) and that I know a certified tech would love to come teach these
classes. she took my name and number and i took the managers name and
number
Ruth 783-0632
and said that you or i would give her a call also (let me know if you
want to or if you want me to)
also while i was there i checked out the complete air and think it
looks neat, let me know if you get one as i would love to play with it
