For horizontal blinds, the blinds do not have inner cord stop devices to prevent the accessible inner cords from being pulled out. If an inner cord is pulled out, a child can become entangled in the loop and strangle. For vertical blinds, strangulations can occur if a child's neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop formed by the bead chain or by the cord with a weighted device. For cellular shades, strangulations can occur if a child's neck becomes entangled on the shade's free-standing looped cord.

Yes! Please, please be careful! Not only for children, but anyone with pets as well. When I was a child, we had a dog who became tangled in a cord from our blinds. No one was home at the time. We found him upon our return.

It was terrible.

Thanks for reminding us all how dangerous these can be.

I will never have corded window treatments in my home again. The risk is simply not worth it.

A good friend of mine lost her 2 year old two years ago to a cord blind accident. Many people assume that the changes they have made to blinds have made them safe. SafER, but they are still unsafe.
