    4pt harness?

Ok, I know a lot of people here have a problem with motorcycles, so please, no flaming on that. My dd has almost outgrown her Scenera, which is the only seat that fits into the sidecar. By next summer I am sure she will be too tall for it. My husband informed me that there is a 4pt harness on the seat (I thought it was a lap belt only). Are there any boosters that can be used with a 4pt harness? Or would you just use the harness, without a booster for a 4yo?

    Re: 4pt harness?

In what way is the Scenera the only one that fits? And how does the harness fit her? And does it have a minimum weight or height rating?

    Re: 4pt harness?

The scenera is the only one that fits because it's the only seat I own that can be reclined ff. The seat in the sidecar is quite reclined. I haven't checked the fit on her yet (we haven't even taken the bike out this year, no plates or ins.) and I'll have to do some research on the limits. Thanks for reminding me.

Ok, but not tonight. I have to find the shoulder straps for the harness and I'm not waking the kid up at 2am to take pics.

    Re: 4pt harness?

If the four year old fits WELL in the harness (i.e., it adheres snugly to her body and holds her in place), I would use it in lieu of a car seat.

The car seat is going to be poking her up and out of the protective frame and low center of gravity of the side car. I'd rather see her well contained

Can you recline the Scenera in ff mode? really? I need to check my manual - I didn't think that was allowed.

Yeah - I'd rather see her contained - how is the scenera being installed if it's a 4 pt harness?

I'm pretty sure the Scenera CANNOT be reclined in FF mode.

    Re: 4pt harness?

On page 33 of my Scenera manual it says "In the forward-facing position, the child restraint can be used in either reclined or upright position."

And it's secured with just the lapbelt, hence the needing to find the shoulder straps.

    Re: 4pt harness?

Ok, I just went out and figured out how the whole system works. I think it will be a pretty good fit on her, but now I'm worried about the lap belt riding too high. How big of a no-no is it to use the harness with a booster?

    Re: 4pt harness?

Pics of the harness would really help me to have an informed opinion.

How much would a backless booster push her up? Out of the sidecar? I'm not sure how tall the sidecar is nor how tall your DD's torso is.

    Re: 4pt harness?

Ok, I finally got her to put some clothes on and went out to take some pictures. I will get them uploaded in a minute. The lapbelt rides way too high without something to help keep it down.

    Ok, here are the pics.

I think it might be okay with a backless booster.

Ok - so this is not "recommended by manf." of course - and it would have to be a parental decision - but personally, I would get the new parkway. I think you could use the harness with it. if you're going to use a backless boosters - you mine as well use a highback for the side impact - and that way, the new parkway will pull that lap belt over her hips. That harness looks very similar to an EZ harness... and I know a few people here have used them with highbacks.

You would be very much going against manufacturer recommendations, but, I'll be a rebel and agree entirely

This is probably a silly question, but she wears a helmet, right?

    Re: 4pt harness?

Yes, she does wear a helmet.

I'm trying to figure out how a highback booster would work with that harness. You can see where it splits off. Wouldn't spreading that out to go through the belt guides make it pull up on the lap belt more? I would love to get a new Parkway, but I just don't have that kind of money. I suppose I could try to save up to buy one next year. What is the minimum weight for the PWSG? I doubt that she will weigh much more than about 32lbs by then.

    Re: 4pt harness?

Ok, so I measured booster necks once, trying to see which would be best for an 86Y. The turbo was good, plus it has SIP. Remember, that you wouldn't have to use the belt guides. What you are doing, is really parental choice, right?
