Let's talk infant seats......

Okay....So I am not pregnant yet, but I am looking to start TTC end of October. It might take me awhile, but it might not. However I have been thinking ALOT about infant seats in the last month or 2. So.....let's talk out my thinkings. Anyone care to join me?

Okay so here is where I am stuck. I WANT a 30lb bucket. However I also know that Marcus will be at least 4, if not older, when I have another child. Most ALL of his convertibles will have 3 years, maybe 4, left on them when the baby is a year. I also kind of figure that I will want a new seat or two for Marcus once he goes FF full time. I know I will want something to replace the MR b/c it installs SO reclined FF. So in the case that I will have at least 3 convertible that go RF that have at least 3 years left on them would it be feasible to still get a 30lb bucket? Should I just get a 22lb one & deal with it?

I also know that I really missed the bucket when Marcus outgrew it around 4-5 months old. I really wished I would have known better back then & I would have gotten him a 30lb seat. However I didn't & now I do. WWYD if you were me?

I am also wondering what infant seats are best, good features, bad features, annyoing features....ect ect. I am also REALLY interested in the OnBoard35. It looks like an inexpensive seat that is really nice with a high weight limit & a nice tall shell. Anyhow....I am not there needing one yet, but am hoping to be needing one by the end of next year!

Like you, I'm hoping that I need one by the end of next year.. however I've already got mine :p.. For A I had a SS1 because I thought he was going to be big.. and he was. He weighed 22lbs at four months, so I'm glad I didn't go with 22lb seat, plus we were heading into winter at that time. I liked it fine, but I have a KF30 for the next one and it is so much nicer. I  it and can't wait to use it. I think the onboard looks like a nice seat as well, but haven't seen one in person. You could get a 22lb seat, but if you're buying one anyways.. you may as well get a 30lb seat then you have the option of when to stop using it.

The shell on the On Board did not look that much bigger to me when looking at it in store the other day. It looked comparable to the basic 22lbs snug rude shells. The most I compared was by sticking my 23lbs 2yr old DS in them, just to see shell height. And It appeared to me his head was over the top by about the same amount. I have DS2 due in Nov so I was shopping. But since both my older ones were barely 4-5 months old too when they out grew an infant bucket and we have extra convertibles abound around here we just decided personally to not waste out money on one and go with our scenera from day one.

Thanks Ladies for the thoughts. I think I will deffinatly wind up with a 30lb seat. However the question is which one....LOL! There could also be something better out before I even need it.

I have also really thought about the Keyfit 30. However it is really expensive. The main reason I will need a new one will be b/c the one I had for Marcus was a yard sale seat that is now expired. It also has had the straps washed a couple of times & they are WAY fuzzy to, so even if it was not expired, I would not use it again.

SO.......Keep the thoughts coming. I would LOVE to hear more.

I looked at the SR32 for myself. I like the KF but in canada it only goes to 22lbs.

Your old seat, cut the straps and throw them out then demolish the seat. take a sledge to it or something.

Are you sure you had the OnBoard? I had an OnBoard 35 next to the SR32 the other day, and both measured (with a tape) and had a kid in them, and the OnBoard was about an inch or so higher. Maybe a little less but definitely taller than the SR32.

I have a pic of my DD in the OnBoard35, just to show the shell height for anyone interested. I do not have a pic of her in the SS/SR32 or KF30 to compare. (you can see my siggy to see how she fits in the MA though :) )

She is 20 months, 31" (short, but most torso than legs) and 28 lbs. She wouldnt let me buckle her since she was quite wedged in there so you cant tell from the pic but she had about 1.5" - 2" above her head, so she still had growing room, but not much. (assuming the OB35 uses the 1" rule, I did not read the manual).

Note: This is actually the "Bertini" Travel System seat but it IS the OB35.

That's the same one I checked out next to the SR32. (I didn't remove the infant padding, I think it might have given a bit more room if I had.)

Not the snug ride 32, the basic one.
