And that thing was a PAIN. I thought the base was bizarre, so I came here and searched for threads and sure enough, it's known for being a horrible base (it's wierd shaped and slides all over). I go to church with the mom and she has mentioned to me on a few occasions that she's not sure about the base...so I went over to her house today. I got it installed well enough, but it's still not as good as I'd like. The only way I got it in there well enough was using shelf liner so that it wouldn't slide all over the seat. If you tilt the base up even slightly, the LATCH belt comes right off. NOT a good base. So I read on the threads that Cosco will replace these bases....I'm going to have her call and see if she can get a new one. The carrying handle on her seat keeps dropping screws too...she screws them back in tight and they keep getting loose and falling out! Her baby is 5 months old, so I'm hoping I can just get her to ditch the whole seat and put him in a convertible. I'm also trying to get her to put her 5yo and 7yo back in boosters.

It's this one:http://www.amazon.com/Eddie-Bauer-Caress-Infant-Seat/dp/B0009W85XS

yup that is the caress and it is AWFUL! I cringe every time I see someone with it because I know there is absolutely no way it is installed right.
17 out of 19 reviews were very negative(and that says something when the internet people on BRU are reviewing it negative) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/cu...6011&s=baby-products&customer-reviews.start=1
and if I can find it there is a great pictoral with a bunny in it lol!
search for caress for previous threads.

From this photo it looks as though they have altered the base on the newer ones with hopes that it will make installation better.

I hope you are able to convince her to get the 5yo and 7yo back in boosters, and that she should switch to a convertible now for the 5mo.

Alicia, that seat is under recall for losing screws in the handle. I'd recommend installing it without the base. Hopefully you can convince her to get a different seat by showing her that the base isn't stable and that it's under recall.

Considering how difficult this base is, I'm actually kind of proud of myself for getting an acceptable install with it!

I didn't have my recall list with me....not that it would have helped since I just noticed that my recall list that I got at my tech class at the end of September was printed in July...and the recall happened in August. I will be printing out a new recall list asap! Thanks for letting me know!!

She also had the seat tip over on it's side while she was driving. I didn't mention it before, b/c I thought it was because she didn't have the seatbelt locked (she wasn't using the base when it happened) but it turns out that it's happened to just about everyone who wrote a review about the seat on Amazon!

She has a convertible that she used with her 5yo, so it's almost expired. She didn't know that seats expired and said that she already had boosters for her older kids....until she told me that they were 9 years old and sheild boosters  . I'm going to see if she'll go shopping with me next week and get a good convertible for her baby and a couple of good boosters for her older kids.

well i guess the EB seats haven't improved at all, we had one when i had my first baby... it came with the stroller, we though it was so nice, ect, ect... it we went to leave the hostpital... ARRRGGG, try being 2.5 day post partum, with a ds who was just circumsized (i now know better then that... awful who other subject though), while i nurse (not sure if she's a tech or not) but trying to get the seat in... 30 min later, we gave up and called my mom to bring her car, the nures got the seat in ok with the seat belt and no base, but it took up 1 1/2 hours to leave after we were down stairs... awful experiance, as soon as we got home the next day dh went and bough a new seat, it was centery and was a good infant seat installed anyways, but it was only a 3pt... oh well atleast i know better now! LOL
