currently rides in a maxi cosi priori but we are selling it today for 75.00 already have a buyer so we need to get him a new seat he is 1 and we plan on using a radian for him when older brother outgrows it so we are looking for a seat that will work for him until then
something that is not so reclined and will have to be able to rf
on the maxi cosi he was on the second from the bottom slot
we drive a toyota sienna 2006 and a toyota corolla 2008

dh thinks we should just put Ethan who will be five in sept in a booster
and give the radian to holland but i think this is a bad idea
my dh wants me to ask when you guys think it's ok to booster a child

It doesn't just depend on age, it also depends on the child's size and how the child sits in a booster. If a child is fidgety and won't sit in place while the vehicle is moving, then the child isn't ready regardless of age and size.

What's the height and weight of your soon to be 5 year old? Have you done any booster training with him? Usually you want to wait until at least 40 pounds.

I think it depends on the child. I think most kids are ready somewhere between 5 and 7, but certainly not all. My own dd is a "mature" 5 1/2 and 34 pounds and will be riding in her Radian for now. I *may* move her to a booster full time once her little sister moves out of the infant carrier but I haven't decided that for sure yet. Ideally, I would like her to weight a bit more (she is 44 inches now) before moving to a booster full time but aside from her weight she is pretty ready so I may just make the switch when her seat is needed, since she will likely be 61/2 by then.

I've found that only a small percentage of the 5 year olds I meet are really able to sit properly for full-time booster use, though most can do it for short trips. So it's a great time to start booster training (Is one of the cars used fairly rairly? Perhaps your husband's?) for many kids but not great for full time use for most.

As for convertibles, what's your budget and how long do you want it to last?

my ds Ethan weighs 35lbs and is currently rf in a radian i think we should start him off in a booster when he is 6 for short car rides and work on him sitting in it correctly dh thinks we should just put him in it he thinks his opinion is correct
and he wants me to have proof that my idea is better my soon to be five yr old
is the size of most 3 yr olds and the 35 lbs is a fully clothed weight and i am rounding up he is actually a little under 35 lbs and he is almost 42 inches tall

Why not get the 5yo a combination seat, like the Graco Nautilus, and give the 1yo the Radian?

If he weighs 35 lbs. I retract my earlier opinion. Wait until he's heavier/older to begin booster training.

Qarin has a good idea. (As usual. ;) )

about the budget we are still thinking about it but are willing to spend extra for comfort we have around a 20 minute drive just to get to a store
the maxi cosi is a great seat just to much like an infant seat he wants to sit up more
and currently the only people who ride in my husbands car is my dh and my 5 yr old and that is to the store and back otherwise dh drives it to work everyday
and when ethan does ride with dh we intsall his radian rf behind passenger seat thats the only spot it will fit

my ds hates the radian ff he says it squeezes him to much he hates the chest clip
do you think the chest clip on the graco nautilus would be better since it's only for a forward facing seat

The chest clip on the Radian is very different from that on the Nautilus. Why not take him to the store and have him sit in one to try it out?

I would totally get him a nautilus. Is you radian clip the old black one or new gray one? The gray one is wider and better for older kids. You can buy one from sunshine kids. If you have swap access you can also check there.
