Title pretty much says it all... how much recline is safe on a vehicle seat while the vehicle is in motion? Obviously flat is out :) But, what amount is permissable without risking submarining?

I don't know if there's an official answer for this. I think it would depend on seat belt fit. If the seat belt is still having good contact w/ the shoulders and hips/thighs, then a few degrees/clicks back would be okay. Any reclining that impacts the seat belt fit (space, misplacement, etc.) would be not okay in my book.

Ok, that's what's I vaguely remember, but for some reason I could NOT find it last night anywhere in our vehicle manuals or in quickly leafing through the tech materials.

Generally we have a no reclining at all in our car rule, but during a 12 hour drive that's going to be tough to enforce. I though there was a degree recommendation past which submarining becomes an issue, but Google wasn't helping me either.

This might be the only page google links to on a Q like that, lol. My Ford has a good blurb about it, but I don't recall my Honda saying anything. I agree with Danielle, though, the main thing is to make sure the belt is touching the chest/shoulder
