4.5 y/o asking to RF

:)

My 4.5 y/o asked if he could have his seat facing 'backwards' like his 18month old sister. He said it looks cooler that way:D

I actually turned him FF'ing at 13months b/c I wasn't educated at the time on ERF...and held off turning him back to RF'ing around age 2 when I learned more (thinking he'd never go for it, it was too late, etc). He is still only 35lbs and didn't reach 33 lbs until around age 3.5-4, so we could've gotten more RF time in the BLVD (33lb weight max although DS is long torso'd so I think we could've gotten to 2.5ish with RF'ing him).

So, for anyone who turned their child FF and still could turn their child back to RF (by weight/height), go for it. You may be surprised!!

And on a side note, part of the reason I switched him to FF was b/c he'd throw a fit when getting into his seat and I thought it would help to be FF. Apparently (having now had another child), this is typical as toddlers assert that independence and they may fuss whether FF or RF...better to have them safer :)

Thanks, Angie! I felt badly telling him that he couldn't RF now :( I guess it's another case of know better, do better :)

I also agree that you can deffinatly turn a child back RF without any trouble. I have done it twice now with my DS. I turned him at 13 months b/c of horrbile car sickness, even though I really knew better, but always felt guilty. I then decided to turn him back at 16-17 months. He could have cared less. I also then had to turn him right at winter b/c with winter clothes, heavy shoes & whatnot he was right at 35lbs. I then turned him back RF begining of the summer b/c he was only 30lbs as he had gone through a stomach virus & all. He LOVES to be RF. He will be riding RF for our 10 hours trip in a few days.

So...if you have a child that can go back RF, I say go for it.

Another story about turning back RF successfully...

I turned DD FF at 1year . I bought her a GN when she was 2 so DS could have her EFT when he grew out of the infant seat. She had been riding in the GN primarily and then RF in a new EFTA in DH's car. I got a marathon (for DS) this past December and DD would ask to ride in that when DS was not with us.
This got me thinking about shuffling carseats to RF her again...I then came across a good deal on a RN and then she was back to RF.

So she FF for about 2years, and transitioned back to RF great. I am pretty sure I will be able to get to 4 RF. She tells me all the time how she really likes sitting backward.
