from rf to a booster seat

I think my ds Ethan will end up going from a rf seat straight to a booster seat
he currently rides rf in a radian 65 he weighs 35 lbs with clothes and shoes
his current seat goes to 40lbs rf he turns 5 in September he loves to ride backwards
it just seems weird that he will go straight to a booster from rf
does anybody else think this will happen to their kids since we now have options for 40lb rf seats

I'm wondering why you would be putting him in a booster once he outgrows the RN RF. Wouldn't you just continue to use the Radian but FF?

I planned on doing it for DD1. I am not a big weight person for boosters, but age. I figured I could keep her RFing until 5 or 6 and then booster her.

However with her health problems, that wasn't an option. However I LOATHE forward facing seats. I never can find one I like or my kids like

So I hope I can go straight to a booster after RFing for my 2nd DD who shouldn't hit 40 lbs until 4 1/2 or 5

I think because he'd be 5 or 6 and 40 lbs, so by then he'd be most likely fine in a booster and no need to FF harness him.

that's the problem we are having he hates the harness when forward facing he says it pushes to much against him loves to be rf my one wish is that they test the radian to 55 lbs rf

Ok. Fyrfightermomma, I guess I was just thinkig that if it was me I would just keep using the seat that still fit, despite the age, until it didn't fit anymore. But if he complains all the time when FF in it, then that would be a good reason to get a different seat! :)

That's what they do in Sweden. They don't have forward facing harnessed seats. There's an argument that the head should be free to travel a little more forward facing so that way there's less stress on the neck being forced to stop. But they can usually guarantee their kids will get to a decent, if not completely mature, booster age before forward facing. Whereas here even with 40 pound seats we're going to have two year olds who need a forward facing harness.

I've wondered if this may happen with DD. She's nearly 3 and about 32 pounds, but just finished a major growth spurt. She may make it to 5-6 before she hits 40lbs. I haven't done any real in depth research on the booster vs FF 5pt harness debate, but I will when the time comes. Hopefully, we'll have some clarity by then.

I will probably move DS2 from RF to a booster. He's in an XT and I'll keep him in it until 40lbs. If he's 5 when he hits 40 (and can sit correctly in the booster) he'll go straight into that. I don't know why, I guess I'm just not completely sold on harness seats for a child who is age appropriate for a booster.

My dd should be able to rf to 6.5 years. I considered doing that and then putting her in a booster. Unfortunately, dh doesn't see things the way I do, so she'll go ffing long before 40 pounds. (She is 4.5 years, though.) The way our seating is she may end up harnessed past 40 pounds just to get things to fit, but we'll see about that when we get there.

I don't know, but I don't have any children who have problems w/ the ffing seats. Could it be he's just not used to the ffing seat and will grow to be o.k. w/ it? AJ is 6 and 52# and going into 1st grade but I feel better w/ him harnessed. He likes to fight w/ his brother and the temptation to move out of position in the booster is too strong sometimes.
