CPST certification question

Are certifications state-specific? I imagine they are, considering the laws regarding child restraints are state-specific, but I thought I'd ask.

I couldn't go to the state next door and take the class could I?

i did not think they were state specific but i could easily be wrong  it took me a long time to find a class near me and i was even looking in surrounding states (i live in the corner of IL) and i guess that never occurred to me

anxiously awaiting more responses :p

ETA: my class didn't go into state laws at all, so that also led me to believe the certification was standardized.. ?

I live and 'practice' in MO, but took my class in KY. The class was sooner and more convenient for me to take. They did go over the KY laws, but I just reviewed the MO ones on my own.

It's a national certification. Recognized in all states. I took my course in NY state. I live in CT. NY state has some *additional* requirements for techs who are *working* in that state...but they don't apply to me since I work in CT. I was already very familiar with CT state law since I work in law enforcement administration, but if you're not entirely sure then once you're certified I'd find a good instructor in your state or someone with some CPST experience and ask to spend some time with them to be sure you have the correct info re: your state's laws.

Yeah, Nationally certified.
I took my course in SC but 'practice' in NC.
