'03 Kia Sedona?

Would you recommend a 2003 Kia Sedona as a 'second' vehicle.

We found a pretty good deal on a used one.
It is the 'deluxe' model, and the body seems to be in good shape, although it has fairly high mileage (116K.)
It wouldn't be our primary vehicle, but the kids and I would be using it occasionally, so I want something safe. I need a fairly dependable van that would last us a couple of years, (until we pay off our other vehicle and save up enough for a replacement.)

Do you think the '03 Sedona would fit the bill, or should I keep looking?

I don't think the safety ratings on the 05 and older are all that great. They made alot of changes to the 06 model that really improved the safety.

I don't have exact data to back me up, just what I've read and heard.

My first thought when I saw your title was: RUN!!! The 05 & older Sedonas are very different than the newer generation. I have an 04 and it's really been a lemon. It has about 40k miles and has been in shop under warranty many many times-like probably 40 or so in the 4 1/2 years I've had it. Most weren't for things that would strand you. More quality issues like seat trim breaking, the hatch release not working, that kind of stuff. They have break issues-mine's getting ready for it's 3rd or 4th set. I notice it does alright as long as I stay on flat ground, but the brakes get hot in the mountains, resulting in warped rotors. I've never had this problem with any other vehicle (and I've been driving for 20 years).

I suppose it depends on how much you are paying for it and what your other choices are. I know they don't hold their resale well, so they are much less than a compatible Honda or Toyota. When I bought mine, it had 8k miles and I got it for about $3,000 less than a Honda or Toyota with 60k miles.

Thanks for your replies.
Dh isn't sure if he wants a truck or a van anyways....so maybe I'll tell him to just keep looking. :(

I had an 03 Kia Sedona and I put 114K miles on it. It was always reliable, ran great. But there were a lot of other issues; radio didn't work, moonroof never worked (broke at 20K miles and dealership "fixed" it twice), a/c, and transmission was going.
That said, we traded it in for an 06 Sedona which I love  They have fixed a lot of the electrical issues and I now have 50K miles and so far so good.

Stay FAR, FAR away from the 03 Sedona, mine was a POS! The A/C and the Transmission went out in the same year....not to mention all the accessory issues...the passenger vanity mirror broke when my husband put the visor up, the light covers fell off, the back plastic molding on the inside cracked...I will never buy another Kia again...I am traumatized...LOL
