True Fit or My Ride?

My son is almost 8 months old and I am trying to choose a convertible carseat for him. At his six month appointment he was almost 18 pounds but only 24 and 1/4 inches so he is short and chubby :) He is 20 pounds now, but I'm not sure about his height. I am deciding between the True Fit and My Ride. If his growth continues with this pattern, he will probably be able to rear-face longer in the My Ride. I am wanting to put the seat in the center position of my 06 Matrix (no LATCH there :( ) and the infant carseat tips a lot in that seat and requires a locking clip. If the convertibles are the same way, the built-in locking clips of the True Fit would be a big advantage. But I hate how you can't get to the harness adjustor on the True Fit. Is the My Ride's adjustor any easier to access? If not, I figure at least the True Fit has the continuous harness to help get him in without adjusting the strap, but I would really rather have the option to adjust it. I am also leery about the fraying with the My Ride. So many factors! I know the Premier is easier to adjust, but it is out of my price range. Thanks for any advice you have for us.

It looks like you've done your research and know the positives and negatives of both seats. I just wanted to add personal experience. :)

The True Fit is a very wide seat, I personally like how the My Ride 'cradles' the kids better (both my 16 pound 6 month old, and 27 pound 2 year old). I really did like the continuous harness of the TF, I rarely needed to adjust the harness. I had to return the MR due to fraying, and I am now selling my TF. I am sadder to see the MR go than the TF.

I have and love both seats. The True Fit is wider and taller but still fits very nicely in the center position of our Neon. The built in locking clips are amazing. I rarely have to adjust the harness so them being too far in the seat really isn't a problem. It gives a lot more room height wise. The MyRide cradles my son very well and he is really comfortable in it. He has actually tried fighting me when I went to take him out of the seat, on several occasions. We will need the higher rear facing limit so it works great for us. Caleb is in the 95% for height and he still should be able to rear face to the full 40lbs in it. It has nice deep seats similar to the True Fit. With an 06', your seat belts will lock so why do you need the locking clip? I hate using locking clips because I'm just no good at them. With the locking seat belts, you should be able to get an nice and tight install.
Anywho, both are great seats. For forward facing, children will fit in the True fit longer because it has a taller shell and the top slot is about an inch higher

Armywife, infant seats with in belts with switchable retractors often need locking clips to prevent the seat from tipping over on its ear.

The good news is, OP, MOST convertibles don't have the same problem

Thanks for the input. I've been lurking on this site for the past few weeks, there is so much good information here! I am so glad I found it and learned I don't have to shell out $300 for a good seat. I am also glad to hear tipping shouldn't be as much of a problem as it was with his infant seat. I wish I had known about built-in lockoffs before I bought it (a Snugride) because it has been a big hassle. I am thinking I will go get the My Ride at BRU this week while it is still on sale and I got a coupon for 15% off carseats in my email. Can't pass that deal up! I'm just crossing my fingers the harness doesn't fray!

By the way, off the subject, what does "ETA" mean? I think I have figured out the other abbreviations, but that one has me stumped :)

Most likely "edited to add". It's also possibly someone is referring to the evenflo triumph advance, but the usual acronym for that is EFTA.
