Do you prefer seats that have more eps foam down half of the seat or all over like the TF or seats that only have it in the headwing area like the blvd? Do you think it's better to have more, or does it really not matter?? I know they all pass the same standards, but still I'm curious what others think.

IMO, it really only matters where the head is because the head is the only thing that flies forward and then back against the seat in an accident. (How's that for a run on sentance )

Body doesn't matter, because soft tissue impacting the foam will do nothing. Grab some styrofoam and press your belly into it, nothing really happens. Press your head into it, and you get somewhere. You need the hard bone to compress the foam, soft tissue can't compress it and therefore doesn't do anything.

In a harnessed seat, I don't feel that EPS foam throughout makes a difference, safety-wise. Basically what Splash said. The child's body is held into the seat by the harness, and doesn't achieve much acceleration side to side so even if they do "smash" into the sides of the seat, it's really minimal, since the harness is holding them.

For boosters, I'm more comfortable with full body EPS. Seeing my DD in her boosters, I can absolutely tell that if we were in a collision, her body would more likely "smash" into the sides of the seat since only the vehicle seat belt is holding her- it's just not as tight as a harness, kwim? That's one reason that the Monterey is her primary booster- EPS foam throughout.
